The Amex Platinum Card is one of my favorite cards in my wallet, but it is definitely not for everyone. Some people should avoid the American Express Platinum Card, while others need to ask themselves these five questions before even applying for it!

Starting off with travel. This is a card that's entire premise is around travel, so if you do not do that often, or plan to in the future, this card is definitely not for you. However, if you find yourself a frequent traveler, the Platinum card could become an excellent card to keep in your wallet.

If you are in active duty for the military, then this card is a no brainer. Due to the servicemember civil relief act, you can have the annual fee waived, which would make all the benefits the card offers, free!

If you are a part of the general public, then you will need to really do the math on if all the benefits that this card offers, make sense. You don't want to fall into the trap of getting this card, and forcing yourself to make unnecessary purchases just to make it work. That will just cause you to to ultimately lose more money.

This card is all about membership rewards points, so if you don't plan to use them for travel, perhaps a different card would benefit you more. The Amex Platinum Card pairs well with the Amex Gold Card and Blue Business Plus Card to earn a ton of points which then can be redeemed for travel.

Finally, this is a tough card to maintain. You truly do need to be organized to keep track of what purchases to put on it and what credits you need to use this month. It truly is no easy task but if it does makes sense for you to get, as long as you stay on top of everything, could be an amazing card. This is why I have the American Express Platinum Card.
