On Monday, April 12 the Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on a LED Sign Program for Triangle Square which includes a Development Agreement. Meetings are held on Zoom as City Hall is still closed.
A group of concerned residents led by former Costa Mesa City Council member Wendy Leece got together to express their strong opposition to the installation of three giant LED signs planned for the Triangle Square mall located near the southern part of Costa Mesa at three busy intersections. A total of 2600 square feet of signage, similar to what is typical on the Las Vegas strip, is being considered for the top 3 corners at three intersections.
Residents believe these signs will distract drivers and cause an unsafe environment for walkers, bikers and drivers, and will create light pollution. In addition, residents do not want the Las Vegas style signs which will set a precedent for other businesses.
Watch this video to learn more about the sign plan and the 30 to 90 year agreement between the Triangle’s owner and the City.
Detailed information is on the City website in the Feb. 8, 2021 Planning Commission meeting Staff Report re: Public Hearing 1.
