Ice Dance in Helsinki, Finland..
One of the most amazing performances in the history of ice skating brought tears to the 10,000 rink spectators.
Babo, a male ice skating dancer, has been blind since childhood. In a rapidly expanding apartment house fire, as the only escape his mother held him tightly in her arms and jumped from the 7th floor. His mother died from the fall. Little Babo survived with over 22 fractures and became blind due to a hemorrhage in his eyes. His mother was an ice skater before she died so as a tribute to his mother from early on Babo decided he was going to become an ice skating champion.
His moment arrived when he danced the famous tango--La Cumparsita--with his partner at the World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki. Although completely blind, by using his ears Babo can measure and manage the surrounding sounds and distances very similar to the special skills associated with flying bats.
Babo's female skating partner continously danced with him through years of learning and training in ice dancing. Most of the whole amazing routine in the video was led by her with Babo following her in performing the difficult movements. See attached video.
