Opposition to the proposed greenfield airport for Chennai is getting stronger by the day. Villagers in Parandur feel that the second airport would not uplift their livelihoods as promised by the state government. Although the government offered 3.5 times the market value for the land, the residents turned down the offer. The project is said to be acquiring more than 4,500 acres including agricultural lands, residential areas and water bodies from 13 villages in the Kanchipuram district.
