[Synopsis]
In this video, I change the PL1, PL2, and Intel Adaptive Boost Technology settings. PL1 means the long term power limit, PL2 means short term power limit which implies using turbo frequencies. Intel Adaptive Boost Technology pushes all turbo cores beyond turbo core frequencies, it is kind of overclocking. This gives your computer a big performance boost at the expense of the longevity of your processor. In many cases, when I running programs, or games I don't need this kind of performance boost, because most applications run just fine. I don't know why they added this feature. I am not a person who benchmarks computers and compares those results with others.
I tested a number of games to see what kind of temps I get. I ran these games before, like Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate, and State of Decay 2. On those games, I got temps as high as 90 °C to 100 °C. The maximum limit for my CPU(I7-13700KF) is 100 °C, so if it reaches that temperature it throttles the performance down to reduce the temperature. Running a program at 95 °C to 100 °C for long period of time is bad, it will reduce the life of the processor. Something that should last 15 years would be abbreviated to 3 to 5 years or less.
There was and is a lot of talk about I7-13700K, I9-13900K, I7-14700K, and I9-14900K processors becoming unreliable in a matter of months. Overclocking a processor can lead to number of problems, like frequent crashes. When I tried to overclock my Pentium 3 550 MHz processor back in 1999, the computer crashed for frequently. I also had blue screens, and random restarts. After that, I didn't overclock any CPUs. For me, stability is more important than short bursts of performance. If you have an automobile, you don't drive at the maximum speed of the vehicle. Let's say the maximum speed of your vehicle is 135 mph or 217.35 kph. If you drove your vehicle at that speed everyday then your vehicle would last a year or less. Most people drive their vehicles at the speed limit. As for the case of Intel's 13th and 14th Gen higher end CPUs, they are forcing you to run it at frequencies that are beyond turbo frequencies.
We will see if changing these settings will result in lower temperature than before.
