Transcript:
A rescue operation is underway in the Atlantic Ocean to locate a high-tech submersible vessel carrying five people that went missing during an expedition to document the wreckage of the Titanic.
Canadian and US rescue teams are collaborating to locate the craft and rescue the individuals on board. The submersible, operated by Ocean Gate Expeditions, had a ninety-six hour oxygen supply, but lost contact with its support vessel after submerging on Sunday morning. The company is working to deploy a remotely operated vehicle capable of reaching the site's depth of six thousand meters.
Ocean Gate's expeditions to the Titanic wreck site involve archaeologists, marine biologists, and paying "mission specialists" who take turns operating equipment inside the five-person submersible. Among the mission specialists is Hamish Harding, a UK businessman and adventurer.
The expedition aimed to document the deterioration of the Titanic, which sank in nineteen twelve and has been gradually succumbing to metal-eating bacteria. The missing submersible, named Titan, was designed to withstand extreme ocean pressures and boasted a large viewport for unparalleled views of the deep ocean. The challenges facing the rescue operation include the remote location, undulating seabed, and limited vessels capable of reaching such depths.
