The Durand Line is the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan that stretches for about 2,640 kilometers (1,640 miles). It was established in 1893 by an agreement between Sir Mortimer Durand, a British diplomat, and Abdur Rahman Khan, the Emir of Afghanistan, to mark the limits of their respective spheres of influence in the region. The Durand Line cuts through the lands of the Pashtun people, who have inhabited the area for centuries. The Durand Line has been a source of dispute and conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as among the Pashtun tribes on both sides of the border. In this video, we will explore the historical background, the geopolitical implications, and the current challenges of the Durand Line.
