The Richmond Police Department has seen fewer catalytic converter thefts so far in 2024, compared to this time last year, but the same can't be said for vehicles themselves.
On Thursday, July 11, Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards gave the community a look at the state of crime in the City of Richmond in the second quarter of 2024. With violent crime on the decline by 3%, property crime increased by 3%.
Thieves have tried to steal 836 cars in Richmond so far in 2024, compared to 632 this time last year, but Chief Edwards said that 197 of those were unsuccessful attempts.
