High Capacity Signalling (HCS) is coming to the Melbourne rail network. HCS is advanced train signalling that means more trains can run on each line.
HCS safely reduces the distance between each train on the line, making it possible to operate more frequent and reliable services.
The Metro Tunnel will deliver HCS between Watergardens and Dandenong, with around $1 billion invested in the latest signalling, communications and platform fit-out.
Bids for this package of works have now been received and are under evaluation.
Full height platform screen doors will also be installed from station floor to ceiling, providing increased safety, increased security, less train noise, and better climate control.
Platform screen doors are used in metro systems around the world and they're coming to Victoria.
