— Drier air - Building Heat - Tropical Disturbance —
Heat continues to be a big problem for the Gulf Coast, and another stretch of highs near 100 is on the way this week. For now, however, a front is bringing in some slightly drier air and lower heat indices to the area on Sunday and early Monday. The mornings might feel just a bit less humid over the next couple of days!
SUNDAY:
A front has brought some slightly drier air into the forecast area, and temperatures will feel a bit lower on Sunday and early Monday. Dew point temperatures will fall into the 60s across the area, which is much less muggy than the middle and upper 70s we have been dealing with. Sunday morning will feel a bit drier, and the afternoon heat index will not be as high. Highs will be in the 90s with plentiful sunshine expected.
THE DAYS AHEAD:
Heat is building over the next few days. Indications are that highs will rise to near 100 degrees for much of the upcoming week. Those with after-school activities will need to be prepared for the scorching heat, which will likely be more intense compared to last week. Rain chances will stay low for the beginning of the week, but more scattered showers and storms are expected later in the week.
TROPICS:
We are still tracking the tropical wave that is far out in the Atlantic. It has a high chance of development as it approaches the Lesser Antilles, and we expect it to become our named storm. The future track shows a possible turn to the north, away from the Gulf of Mexico and Florida. However, this is still far out in the forecast and we have plenty of time to watch for changes.
