In this model kit review, we're looking at Eduard's notoriously fiddly 1/48 scale Bf 109E-1 Weekend edition. This kit (No. 84164) is from Eduard's earlier series of Bf 109s and gives the modeler the option to display all engine hatches and gun covers open for display. Unfortunately, there were no substitute parts to allow modelers to easily build the kit closed up. This earned Eduard a reputation of building over-engineered model kits that were very difficult during construction. The weekend kits also had limited decals which prompted me to use decals from Eduard's ProfiPack Bf 109E-3.
I built this kit at the same time I built Airfix's Bf 109E and Tamiya's Bf 109E. I will compare those kits with this kit in this review. Is Eduard's Bf 109 E unbuildable? Let's find out!
