Informed consent is vitally important to attain from a patient before a dentist performs any type of invasive surgery.
You must make sure that you have informed the patient of foreseeable risks, the benefits of the procedure, and any alternatives available.
While it is great to do this in a discussion, there should also be a written record of informed consent.
If something were to go wrong during a procedure and you end up in court, you will be glad that you have the written record to back you up.
