How to get from the new airport in Istanbul (IST) to the city centre? You can have two options: bus and taxi. There is no train or metro connection yet to/from Istanbul Airport. Public transportation is operated by two bus companies, known as HAVAİST and İETT. IST-19 Taksim, IST-20 Sultanahmet and IETT H-2 Şişli-Mecidiyeköy (transfer to metro line M2) are popular with tourists.

The bus fare to the popular districts of Taksim and Sultanahmet is 18 TL. You will need to purchase an Istanbulkart which you can buy at the yellow and blue 'biletmatik' machines. The price is 6 Turkish lira, you can top it up with money. Taking a bus is very affordable, but takes some time, take into account a journey time of 60 minutes to the centre of Istanbul.

A taxi from Istanbul New Airport is more comfortable, taxis are located in front of the Arrivals hall. Istanbul Airport distinguishes between yellow economy taxis (type C), blue comfort taxis (type D) and black premium taxis (type E). The yellow economy taxis (type C) are your cheapest option at Turkey’s busiest airport. The price for an economy taxi from Istanbul New Airport to the centre of Istanbul is 200 TL (32 EUR / 29 GBP / 36 USD).
