"EDUCATION IS POWER"
Can you imagine what life would be like if you did not know how to read and write? The sad fact is that more than 774 million of the world's adults - nearly two-thirds of whom are women - do not know how to read and write.
The United Nations believes that literacy - or the basic education that gives us at least reading and writing skills - is the right of every individual, and an important tool for progress and social development.
It has therefore, proclaimed September 8th as International Literacy Day, to raise people's awareness and concern for literacy issues in the world.
