The cuttlefish has the largest brain to body ratio of any invertebrate, and is a relative of the octopus squid and nautilus. Similarly to the octopus they have the ability to change color pattern and skin texture, squirt ink, use jet propulsion and crush prey with their beak. Additionally, cuttlefish have 8 arms and two tentacles tipped with suckers for capturing prey, an internal buoyancy controlling bone, the most complex eyes of any invertebrate, and the capability to travel in any direction using undulating side fins.
This video is from Kamalla beach on the island of Phuket in the Andaman sea. The overall health of the marine ecosystem there is very poor due to a combination of factors such as “warm water coral bleaching” , and more visibly from the pollution of the towns sewage runoff and trash flowing into the ocean on both ends of the beach. Out of multiple islands and coasts, this was the only place we saw live cuttlefish but found thousands of cuttlefish "bones" from fresh die-offs on Koh Tao and Koh Samui. When researched, this area has one the best ratings for onshore snorkeling on the island, and after seeing this it can be presumed the rest of the coast is in a similar state. A sad state… People should know! Octopus video coming soon:) # cuttlefish #freediving #oceanconservation #ocean #plasticpollution #saveourseas #nature #underwaterphotography #savetheocean #diving #oceanlovers #conservation #sea #marinebiology #marineconservation #sustainability #protectouroceans #oceanlife #ecofriendly #oceans #Fishingrecreation
