Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lay the foundation stone of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on 5th August, 2020. Preparations are underway in full swing in the temple town for the grand 'bhoomi poojan'. The ceremony on August 5 will be the culmination of a legal tussle that lasted for many decades and saw several twists and turns along the way. From the setting up of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya in 1528 to its demolition and the legal battle over ownership of the land, the dispute created a huge divide in the Indian society and also led to several incidents of communal violence in the country. The final verdict in the case came on November 19, 2019, when a five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court headed by then CJI Ranjan Gogoi allotted the disputed land to the Ramjanmabhoomi Trust and ordered the government to provide an alternative piece of five acres of land to the Muslim side for a mosque. Watch this video for a complete timeline of the Ayodhya dispute from 1528 to its eventual resolution in 2019.
