Cientos de manifestantes salieron el jueves a las calles de Puerto Príncipe, capital de Haití, exigiendo mayor seguridad y el fin de la violencia que se ha apoderado de la ciudad durante el último año.
Muchos culpan a la falta de aplicación de la ley por parte del gobierno por su incapacidad de recuperar el control de las calles.
SOUNDBITE: Velina Elisee Charles, manifestante:
"La situación en este momento, Haití se ha convertido en un estado gángster. El régimen actual ha convertido este país en un lugar inhabitable. Es un lugar donde los ciudadanos, donde la gente ya no puede vivir en seguridad."
En Puerto Príncipe, ciudad violenta y peligrosa, las bandas vagan por las calles, controlando barrios enteros y orquestando una racha de secuestros por rescate.
La manifestación del jueves se incrementó ante cientos de ciudadanos preocupados que marcharon por las principales avenidas mientras colocaban barricadas de neumáticos en llamas que ennegrecían el cielo con un humo espeso.
Los activistas limitaron el acceso a las avenidas amontonando basura junto con vehículos destrozados, bloqueando el camino.
