(14 Dec 2015) Working to ease public jitters ahead of the Christmas holidays, US President Barack Obama on Monday opened a rare meeting with his National Security Council outside of the White House, part of a week-long push to explain his strategy for stopping the Islamic State group (IS) abroad and its sympathizers at home.
Obama, US Vice President Joe Biden and the top national security team gathered at the Pentagon for a private meeting to be followed by a public update from Obama about the fight against IS.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Obama did not intend to announce any major changes in approach.
Obama is also slated to give a briefing at the National Counterterrorism Center later in the week.
