Why Can’t Mid Cap and Small Cap Mutual Funds Beat Their Benchmarks?

Small Cap Mutual Funds gave over 40% average returns in calendar year 2023 outperforming most other mutual fund categories. This growth is very high when compared to Mid Cap and Large Cap Mutual Fund categories. Many Mid Cap Funds portfolios have substantial holdings in Large Cap Stocks in the range of 10%-20% apart from the minimum 65% allocation towards Mid Cap Stocks. This increases the liquidity in their portfolios and also protects it during a market downturn.
