Of all the backgrounds you could choose for your studio, a simple grey is possibly the most versatile. Without light it will become black but as Gavin Hoey demonstrates in this video, lighting a grey background with colored gels opens up a world of creative possibilities.
Gavin shows you just how simple it can be to alter the background color and saturation and then takes the basic principles and applies them to a fashion shoot. Finally he jumps into Photoshop to pass on some quick tips on getting matching tones in the portrait.
