Special video to celebrate the release of the Sunbreak massive expansion for Monster Hunter Rise! I've became fan of the Malzeno and its battle theme right from the start and, of course, I wanted to cover it.
But this might be the most difficult piece I've been working on since I started doing covers, and only one reason: the CHOIRS.
They're so damn good on the original piece but, it was a massive pain to reproduce them, or at least to approach the feel they're giving to the theme.
I work with a new choir VST which I'm not really used to yet. This + the fact that I set a deadline to myself for the Sunbreak release got me to the point where I had to choose where to put better effort to make the whole thing as awesome as possible.
That means that I "left" some choir parts to be less precise than what I was aiming for at the beginning. The 1:07 to 1:19 part is an example of that (and I also tried to alter the choir harmony a bit here).
With that being said, I want to highlight the fact that I do love the final product, even though I made choices.
I clearly pushed my limits for this covers, I worked even more meticulously on everything. First the equalization of the orchestral sections (similarly to what I did for the Legendary Titans cover, but sharper), then the overall balance between this orchestral side and the guitar + drums side, and lastly the choir and other extra instruments like the piano.
This was by the way my very first "real" occasion to play something with the vibrato on the guitar. I've just never done it before but the Malzeno gave me the inspiration and enough spooks to make me willing to include it haha. Surprisingly enough, the 2:42 to 2:48 moment came very naturally.
And so I put this playing technique as very specific moments so that that we can identify it as part of the signature defining the cover (alongside the organ being the Malzeno and vampire's signature instrument, without being over-represented here).
Concerning the video itself, I want to thank my friend Toti which improvised himself as cameraman and did a fantastic job!

While I was uploading it, I asked myself if it would be nice to take this opportunity to try the Premiere functionality.
I remembered my friend VinLudens doing it in the past and it looked interesting to try, even with a small audience.
This wasn't planned at all but hey, I said why not and chose Premiere instead of Schedule, and the result felt nice to me!
Being with a bunch of people in the live chat was a fun experience and you can expect quite soon another video following the same path! :)
Oh and, of course, you can expect more Monster Hunter Sunbreak (and others) music to come, so stay tuned and enjoy! 🎸
