Menopause marks the end of a woman's reproductive years and can bring a range of physical and emotional changes. One of the most significant impacts of menopause is on bone health. As women age, they become more prone to osteoporosis, which is a condition characterized by low bone density and an increased risk of fractures.
During menopause, the levels of estrogen in a woman's body drop dramatically, leading to changes in bone remodeling. Estrogen helps regulate the balance between bone formation and bone resorption. With declining levels of estrogen, bone resorption outpaces bone formation, leading to a decrease in bone density and strength. This process continues for several years after menopause, making postmenopausal women more susceptible to osteoporosis.
