Last summer I bought this 88 Mercury 20hp outboard for my 16' Jon boat for $600... It needed some love! I added the electric starter which included a ring gear on the flywheel and building a control box. I probably spent more than I should. I figure about $350 more for all the parts and fuel lines and carburetor rebuild kit, but where can you get a great running 20hp outboard for $950???!!! Plus the fun and satisfaction of DIY! While I was at it I added LED navigation lights and electric bilge pump to the boat!
