Sanfrecce Hiroshima were looking to extend their lead at the top of the J-League as they travelled to lowly Albirex Niigata.
Sanfrecce had lost just once in their last ten league matches while Albirex, who lie in the relegation zone, had won once in their last four. First blood went to the visitors as J-League top scorer Hisato Sato scored his 17th of the season.
The 30-year old despatched a brilliantly weighted ball to give his side the advantage. The home side tried to force an equaliser, but Brazilian Michael couldn't find the target.
Niigata trailed at half-time and their situation did not improve. The influential Sato this time set up Naoki Ishihara for his sixth of the campaign.
Sato turning provider with some fine wing play - leaving Ishihara with a simple tap-in.
The visitors pressed for a third but Ishihara's effort lacked power. It didn't matter as Sanfrecce held on for a comfortable win.
