China National Offshore Oil Corporation has uncovered the world's first large ultra-shallow gas field in ultra-deep waters, named the Lingshui 36-1. Situated southeast of Hainan Province, this gas field lies about 1,500 meters below the South China Sea's surface, containing over 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas at an average depth of 210 meters. CNOOC engineers have overcome significant challenges in safely drilling for shallow gas, marking a groundbreaking achievement.
