Review of Big Meadow Campground (Unit/Loop 4) off Highway 180 and Forest Rte 14S11 in Sequoia National Forest. Campground details here: [ Ссылка ]
Great, quiet campground about 30 minutes from Grant Grove Village! Clean bathrooms, lots of space and shade, beautiful views, close to lots of hiking trails and day trips. The camp host (located in the 1st loop down the road) was very friendly and checked in daily. We used this campground (site 27) as a base for 3 nights and explored Kings Canyon (all the way to Road's End Permit Station - highly recommend it, but would be better to stay down there at least one or more nights), as well as much of Sequoia National Park - Trail of 100 Giants, Moro Rock, Grant Grove, Redwood Canyon Trail, the Tunnel Log/Crescent Meadow area, etc. - all doable in day trips from this campground.
We really liked this campground! It was early June, so it wasn't crowded at all, was still very chilly at night, but warm during the day, less bugs, and lots of stars! Be aware, there can be lots of BIG mosquitos, due to the water running behind some of the campsites, but as long as you have GOOD bug spray and maybe even netting for your hat/head, you'll be fine! We used Sawyer Products Premium Insect Repellent with 20% Picaridin - had great reviews & works great! The mosquitos didn't seem to be as present (or just didn't bother us much) after the 1st night.
Additional notes - there is no drinking water so come prepared. Each site has a large lockable bear box, fire ring, and plenty of room for more than one tent. Some firewood can be gathered from just up the hill (uphill across the dirt road from where the bathroom is). The camp host said there hadn't been a bear since April 2017 in loop 3 (campers left dog food out in site 25) so lock up your food & scented items! We never saw any bears in the area.
