High-count in Kabale district on Wednesday sentenced a 46 years old man to 40 years in prison over the gruesome murder of his wife and three children.
Court that was presided over by Kabale high court judge, Justice Samuel Emokor, heard that on the 12th June 2021, while at Habutobere village in Butare parish of Muko sub county, Rubanda district, the convict, Armstrong Vianney Ahimbisibwe, murdered his wife Rovinah Muheki, his sons Edwin Tumworobire aged 17, Westlife Akampumuriza aged 15 and her daughter Maria Akwira Akinamushabire aged 5 years.
When the charges were read for him Ahimbisibwe, pleaded guilty and asked court for a lenient sentence saying that he did the act out of anger and therefore he was so remorseful.
Delivering his ruling at high court premises at Kikungiri hill, Southern division in Kabale Municipality, Justice Emokor, sentenced Ahimbisibwe to 40 years of imprisonment on four counts of Murder cases, Assault and Arson. The convict will serve a sentence of 38 years and two months, having spent on remand 1 year and 8 months.
Meanwhile Elly Maate - Kigezi region Police spokesperson asserted that the sentence will act as a deterrent measure to the would-be offenders in the Kigezi region, adding that cases of murder are on the increase in the region.
