ALL NEW 2025 Toyota Stout Review: Is This the Ultimate Pickup?


You are either barely aware of the rumoured Toyota Stout or you are incredibly thrilled about it. This is one of those news items. At the moment, Toyota does not really have anything that can compete directly with the Ford Maverick. If you are looking for a light pickup from Toyota but are not quite certain that you want to drive a Ford, this light pickup could be the perfect option for you.

Regrettably, a significant portion of the information that we have about the truck at the moment is merely supposition. Since we initially received confirmation that Toyota was working on a tiny pickup, official news on the Stout front has practically dried up. However, we do have confirmation that the project is currently in the process of being developed and that it will be designed for the international market. Everything that we know about the 2025 Toyota Stout up to this point, as well as when we anticipate receiving an update, is detailed below.If you ask the majority of people to name several Toyota pickups, they will most likely provide the Tacoma, the Tundra, and possibly the Hilux as examples. It is a little more difficult to find the Stout. It was officially removed from the Japanese market in 1989, after three generations of production, with the last run of trucks designed specifically for exporting continuing until the year 2000. When it was first released in 1954, the Stout was initially marketed as the Toyopet RK. It was designed to be a vehicle that fell somewhere in the middle of the smaller Toyota SG and the medium-duty Toyota FA.

The ultimate version of the truck was a rear-wheel drive (RWD) truck with either two or four doors and a four-cylinder engine that was either 2.0 or 2.2 litres in displacement (primarily for the Latin American market). With the exception of specific export countries, the Stout was primarily replaced by the fifth-generation Toyota Hilux in 1989. The Hilux, in turn, would be replaced by the Tacoma in the North American market in 1995.We are not relying solely on speculation and rumours in this situation. Leon Theron, the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Toyota South Africa, issued an official statement in January 2023 urging the industry to "watch this space in the next three years for the LCV (light commercial vehicle) segment with potentially a small [truck] from Toyota." The remark was issued in response to the fact that Toyota South Africa was planning to launch a tiny truck. In the year and a half that has passed since this statement was issued, Toyota has not offered any kind of retraction or correction, so we have no choice but to presume that they are still committed to their original plan.
