Pancreatic trauma patient management is a challenge for surgeons. Relatively uncommon organ to be injured in blunt trauma - Around 5% of blunt trauma; Around 6% of gunshot injury around 2% of stab injuries. Penetrating trauma accounts for more than 70% of cases of pancreatic injury.
This video tutorial has discussed Changing Paradigms in Management of Pancreatic Injury – Step by Step Guide & Literature review. We have discussed in detail the diagnosis of pancreatic injury, and the role of CECT, MRI, and Secretin-enhanced MRCP. The AAST classification and EAST 2016 guidelines are discussed in detail. We have also given a case scenario and justification for the management according to the present evidence in pancreatic trauma. The decision-making in pancreatic injury is difficult, and often we lack clear-cut guidelines due to a lack of literary evidence.
