The Human Rights Watch is calling for a United Nations probe into Bangladesh’s enforced disappearances.
In a report, the rights watchdog said 86 members of the opposition Nationalist Party went missing in the past decade.
The watchdog called for targeted sanctions on the country’s elite police squad, Rapid Action Battalion accused of the crime.
The report said disappearances have become a hallmark of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s rule to curtail free speech.
In a statement, an HRW’s specialist Meenakshi Ganguly said the Bangladeshi authorities provide impunity for these kinds of abuses.
