“Christmas Saves the Year” is twenty one pilots‘ first Christmas song. It was released after their Christmas-themed Chipotle Challenger Series Twitch stream playing Fortnite on December 8, 2020, that Tyler Joseph, Josh Dun, and Mark C. Eshleman of Reel Bear Media organized to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The song was released at the end of the Twitch stream in the form of a visualizer music video. Immediately following the stream, the song and visualizer video were made available on music-streaming services.

The song was teased as a surprise gift to the fans on Tyler’s Instagram story the day prior, calling it a “stocking stuffer.”
