En la Sierra Norte de Puebla existe la organización
Masehual Siuamej Mosenyolchicauani (mujeres indígenas que se apoyan), que desde 1985 ha enfrentado situaciones adversas, que han reconocido, son impuestas por el machismo.
Actualmente la Masehual está integrada por 100 socias nahuas de seis comunidades cercanas a Cuetzalan y han logrado cosas concretas como la edificación de la primera posada gestionado exclusivamente por mujeres indígenas, el Hotel taselotzin (retoñito).
Rufina Edith Villa, ofrece el testimonio del trabajo de las mujeres masehual en busca de una vida digna para ellas y sus familias, el reconocimiento de su identidad indígena, así como la importancia de tener una organización exclusivamente de mujeres.
"Hemos aprendido a valorar nuestra cultura indígena, a valorarnos nosotras como mujeres, a sentir que somos capaces de hacer las cosas, a no sentirnos inferiores por ser mujeres indígenas sino que por el contrario, el ser indígenas nos da orgullo", afirma Rufina.
