This walking tour of Athens historic Acropolis was filmed on Wednesday November 5th, 2021 starting from the base of the hill. From the entry gate we walk up along the olive tree lined path overlooking the Odeum of Herodes Atticus. Beyond that is the Sanctuary of Asclepius as well as the Ancient Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus.
From there we will make our way up the Panathenaic Way into the Propyla (which is Greek for before and here applies to the entrance of the temple grounds).
The walk continues up as we pass under the Temple of Athena Nike. Passing through the Propyla we get our first glimpse of the Parthenon from the North West angle.
Before touring the monumental structure we will take a closer look at the ruins of the Older temple of Athena which lay in front of the exquisite Porch of the Karyatids. Moving towards the dynamic structure we walk around the Erechtheion.
Finally we make our way onto the main road and get the perfect angle of the Parthenon. The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patroness. The Parthenon was the center of religious life in the powerful Greek City-State of Athens, the head of the Delian League. Built in the 5 century B.C., it was a symbol of the power, wealth and elevated culture of Athens.
