Today we're looking at the historical appearance and clothing of Lawmen in the American West. For this week I used a variety of photo archives from the late-1800s, and the Library of Congress' Newspaper Archives. As for secondary sources, I used Jeremy Agnew's 'The Old West in Fact and Film: History vs Hollywood,' (which I recommend highly), and tables and figures from “Criminologists and Historians of Crime: A Partnership Well Worth Pursuing,” and "Homicide Rates in the American West" by Randolph Roth. About Man vs History: Man vs History is a YouTube channel that endeavors to combine both education and entertainment, specifically related to history. While the focus of the channel will expand beyond analyzing the historical accuracy of RDO, for the time being, there's still more quality videos to come on the topic. For the past decade I've been history professor at the college level.
