The casting decisions, including Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, weren't horrible but they went out of their way to turn one of Hollywood's most attractive female stars in Sydney Sweeney into a dorky looking nerd, further enforcing the idea the MCU has adopted about women not being allowed to look appealing. Then there's the controversial rewriting of the iconic "with great power comes great responsibility" line, which now takes on a self-validating and narcissistic tone. Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland's Spider-Man had to learn that the hard way, these women were always powerful though and they should never doubt that because...women. This implies that the power has always resided within these women, diminishing the core message of earning power through hardship. This is just the latest Marvel news and MCU news that addresses the complexities of the Madame Web movie. The Sony Spider-Man universe is barely holding on and this isn't helping their case.
