Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has recently stressed that Russia and Ukraine should negotiate a ceasefire as the war has reached a stalemate.
The war in Ukraine has so far been a great opportunity for the Belarusian strongman, and he wants it to end as such.
It is no secret that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to revive the historical Russia, and to do so, Russia must occupy not only Ukraine, but also Belarus.
According to a document leaked from the Russian presidential administration, before the war in Ukraine, Putin had planned to absorb Belarus by 2030.
Well aware of this possibility, Lukashenko had kept his distance from Russia until 2020.
In 2020, however, Lukashenko's attempt to fraudulently extend his term in the presidential election triggered mass protests in Belarus.
Putin saved Lukashenko by deploying Russian security forces and providing other political support.
Lukashenko has since become Putin's puppet.
Lukashenko doesn't want Putin to win the war because then Belarus will be Putin's next target.
He also doesn't want Putin to lose, because then he will lose his political patron.
