Hello friend! I'm sure we all have a baking soda container in the kitchen.
Today we are going to discuss the Top 10 Uses of Baking Soda in the Garden and at the end of this video a very interesting Baking Soda Garden Hack.
Next up.. Baking Soda is 100 percent sodium bicarbonate used primarily for cooking purposes.
Today I will list 10 benefits of baking soda for plants and gardens. It is a 100% biodegradable, non-toxic, inexpensive organic solution in gardening.
1. As a Pesticide & Fungicide: You can make a highly effective organic pesticide spray with baking soda to kill harmful pests and insects in the garden such as Powdery Midew, Aphids, Spider mites, Slugs and Snails as well as fungal attacks.
2. The formula for making the spray is: 1 liter of water + 1 tsp of baking soda + 1 tsp of vegetable oil or olive oil + 1 tsp of liquid soap or detergent. Mix well to make a spray and apply on the plants once a week. For snails and slugs directly sprinkle on it.
3. Kills Cabbage Worms Mix 50% baking soda + 50% flour such as wheat flour and sprinkle on top of cabbage or broccoli leaves. The worms chew on these and die within 1 or 2 days.
4. Cleaning Plants Foliage to remove dust and dirt which promotes better photosynthesis and better health of your plants. Use half a teaspoon of baking soda in 1 liter of water and use a soft cloth to mop the leaves.
5. Also Clean Garden Tools, Pots and Garden Furniture: Use 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda + 1-2 teaspoons of liquid soap in 1 liter of water for cleaning.
6. Sprinkle baking soda on your compost pile to get rid of bad smells.
7. To encourage blooming, spray a solution of 1 tsp baking soda in 1 liter of water.
8. You can get Sweet Tomatoes if you sprinkle some powder around the tomato plants.
9. Weed Killer: sprinkle over tufts of weeds. This will burn the leaves and the weeds will fade and disappear within a few days.
10. To Keep Cut Flowers Fresh: Just add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the vase water.
NOW HACK BAKING SODA To Test Soil PH without Gadget: You will need baking soda and Vinegar (i.e. acetic acid) to perform this pH test on your garden soil.
Collect two samples of your garden soil in small containers from different areas of your garden, and take half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of baking soda.
This is a simple school chemistry based on Acid + Basic reaction. Acidic pH below 7, base above 7 and neutral 7 or water PH.
So when you pour vinegar on one of the soil samples and if the soil starts to bubble, it's alkaline, meaning the pH level is above 7.
If there is no reaction, take your other sample and pour half a glass of water then baking soda.
If the soil is bubbling, it means the pH level is below 7, and it is acidic soil.
Well, that's 10 benefits of baking soda for gardening.
