Atlantic tropical storm activity is gradually transferring west, to the Eastern Pacific. Two areas of interest have fair chances of development as we enter the new week, and it seems likely that at least one of them will form. The western system will be broader and turn more obviously out to sea, with the eastern system smaller and a potential impact for the coast of southern Mexico. Some of the energy for the second storm could arrive from the remnants of Tropical Storm Bret, which is making landfall along the coast of Nicaragua.
Tropical Storm Cindy is hanging on, but is being dreadfully sheared and is likely to die off within 24 hours. However, forecast models suggest that Cindy - or a new spin-up low pressure system to its east - could develop into a tropical storm later this week near Bermuda and go on to affect Atlantic Canada.
Elsewhere, an area of interest has a very small chance of developing in the Philippine Sea this week.
