The rapid loss of the world's biodiversity poses a huge threat to the future of mankind. The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources, a binding agreement that came into force on 29th June 2004, serves to protect the crop biodiversity that countries depend upon to feed their people, while ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of benefits deriving from its use.(Ref:2420)
