MET Police chief Cressida Dick has defied calls to resign after cops stormed a vigil for Sarah Everard on Clapham Common last night.
Ms Dick said she was “determined to lead” the Met after the Fire Brigade Union slammed the tactics used by the Force as "grotesque".
Defending the Force's tactics, Ms Dick said: "What happened to Sarah appals me.
"I am the first woman commissioner of the Met - perhaps it appalls me in a way even more because of that.
"What has happened makes me more determined, not less, to lead my organisation."
It comes after Mayor Sadiq Khan today called for a "full independent investigation" into the Met's handling of the Clapham Common event, adding he was "not satisfied" with the explanation given by the force's leadership.
The Fire Brigades Union also slammed the tactics used by the Met.
A spokesman said: "These grotesque displays have no place in our society.
"We send solidarity to the family and friends of Sarah Everard and all those who want to end violence against women and girls."
Heavy-handed cops dragged tearful women away from a candle-lit shrine during ugly clashes in south London, last night.
Piling pressure on the police, Ms Patel also called for Chief Inspector of Constabulary to conduct a review into policing of the vigil, which descended into chaos.
Under-fire Dame Cressida was seen at New Scotland Yard this afternoon, hours before a planned protest at 4pm.
She was locked in crisis talks with Boris Johnson, Ms Patel, and London Mr Khan throughout the day after yesterday's mayhem.
Earlier, Ms Dick said: "I feel for my officers. They are policing during a pandemic.
"I don't think anybody should be sitting back in an armchair saying what they would do differently."
Mourners shouted “shame on you” at officers as they ripped women off the metal railings.
Shocking pictures showed one 5ft 2in mourner being pinned to the floor as she was arrested and others cuffed as they were led away.
The Met Police have since confirmed that four people were arrested during the clashes.
