May is Stroke Awareness Month, and it's important that we all realize that stroke is a preventable disease. There are seven basic things that you can do to lower your risk of stroke. One of them is having your blood pressure checked, make sure that you don't have high blood pressure. Two is having your blood glucose checked, make sure you don't have diabetes. And if you do, that it's well-managed. Three is following a diet. There's different diets that can lower your risk of stroke. One of them is the DASH diet. The other one is the Mediterranean style diet. Four, making sure that you're not drinking too much alcohol. Five, steering clear of tobacco. Six, making sure your weight is where it needs to be and you're not overweight. And seven is being engaged in exercise. So we know regular exercises will decrease your risk of stroke.
