Tonika, who has been charged with defrauding an elder, is having a hard time and wants her husband to pay her bail. But after two weeks in jail, she gets the most support from the women on the aggression management course. The prison food exacerbates the intestinal disease she has had all her life and in order to put her new situation into perspective, she has to fall back on her grandmother's life lessons.
Prison Girls: Life Inside is an intimate and in-depth look at what it's like to be a woman incarcerated in an American jail. The series goes behind the walls of California's Maple Street Correctional Centre and explores the reality of life when orange really is the new black. These mothers, daughters, grandmothers and sisters are also gang bangers, murderers, drug smugglers and armed robbers. Whilst we might see glimpses of their softer sides, these often volatile and dangerous women are housed together twenty-four-seven - with explosive consequences.
