The Virgin Mary appeared in the village of Knock in Ireland 139 years ago today!
On August 21 of 1879, fifteen people witnessed the apparition at the wall of Knock’s parish church.
The Virgin Mary appeared alongside St. Joseph, St. John the Evangelist and a Lamb with a cross on an altar.
The apparition lasted for two hours.
It was pouring rain, but the witnesses never felt a single drop.
The witnesses ranged from the age of 5 to 74.
Today, hundreds of pilgrims visit the Knock shrine in Ireland each year.
Ireland is hosting the World Meeting of Families this week.
Pope Francis will visit Dublin this weekend to participate in the international event.
