5 Cars With the Most High-Tech Features for the Money
Hyundai Ioniq
All three versions of the 2018 Hyundai Ioniq come loaded with high-tech standard features, including a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a proximity key entry system, push-button start, and automatic cabin temperature control. The compact hatchback also supports satellite radio, HD radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Ioniq comes in three models: a gas-electric hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and a pure electric. If you are eligible for the federal tax incentives available on the plug-in and electric models, their prices become competitive with the hybrid version.
Chevrolet Sonic
The 2018 Chevrolet Sonic earns a spot near the top of our ranking of subcompact cars and was a finalist for our 2018 Best Subcompact Car for the Money award. One of the reasons it is such a good deal: It has an impressive amount of technology for such a low starting price. Every Sonic includes a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system that supports an onboard Wi-Fi hot spot, a 4G LTE data connection, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Also standard is the simple-to-use Chevrolet MyLink interface, which works with your smartphone to bring a number of apps and capabilities to the infotainment screen.
Toyota Camry
Toyota completely redesigned the Camry for the 2018 model year, loading it with standard advanced safety and driver assistance features, plus a user-friendly app-based infotainment system that streams data from your smartphone to the car. A few of the apps included are Pandora, Yelp, and iHeart Radio. The 2018 Toyota Camry comes equipped with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams. It earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and an overall five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Both are the best marks available.
Chevrolet Cruze
Most Chevrolet models feature a host of infotainment features that are optional in rivals, such as a touch-screen infotainment system and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze also features Chevy’s Teen Driver system, which allows parents to keep an eye on their teen’s habits behind the wheel. The Teen Driver system lets parents limit the volume of the audio system, mute the stereo until seat belts are buckled, and put a cap on the car’s maximum speed. Teen Driver also provides a report card to parents for each trip their kids take.
2018 Jeep Renegade
The 2018 Jeep Renegade has a number of new technologies for the new model year, with a 5-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a rearview camera, and Bluetooth now included on all models. Upper-trim models now include support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is, however, the Renegade’s high-tech traction management systems that earn it a spot on this list. When you equip a Renegade with one of the two available four-wheel drive systems, you get the Selec-Terrain feature, which allows you to match the SUV’s traction electronics to the specific terrain you are traversing. In the off-road-oriented Trailhawk model, there’s even a mode for rock crawling.
