Although other foreign leaders have visited the White House, the April dinner will be Trump’s first time hosting an official state dinner.

The visit of Macron and his wife, Brigitte, will celebrate nearly 250 years of U.S.-French relations.

Trump is reportedly the first president in nearly 100 years who did not hold a state dinner during his first year in office. When he campaigned for the presidency, Trump said he would not hold a state dinner until the U.S. no longer had a trade deficit.
