The Mars InSight lander will take more than six months to travel the 300m miles to Mars where it will start geological excavations. It will dig deeper into Mars than ever before – about 5 metres – to record the planet’s temperature. It will also place a hi-tech seismometer on the surface of the planet to try to measure quakes
