The road along Mandovi river is called Avenida Dom João de Castro named after the Portuguese Viceroy João de Castro (1500-1548). He was a noble man and fourth viceroy of Portuguese India. Mandovi River is one of the two most important rivers of Goa (the other one is zuari) passing through Panaji its capital city. Mandovi is also called as Mandoyi or Mahadei. There are three spectacular bridges on Mandovi River near Panaji bus stand. However the most spectacular view of Mandovi River is at about one km distance from Panaji bus stand where there are many river cruises ready to take the tourists for a ride.
Mandovi River is the most important river of Goa passing through Panaji. There are many river Cruises on Mandovi River which take the tourists for a one hour ride. Tickets cost around 300 rs per person. There is a dance stage inside the cruise for everybody to dance. You can also go to the roof of the cruise to see the beautiful views of the city on both sides of the river. You can see the majestic bridges on Mandovi river, some important buildings and Cashino ships. Some food and drink items are also available on the cruise to buy.
The Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church (Nossa Senhora da Immaculada Conceição) is located in Panjim, Goa. The Church was first built in 1541 as a chapel on a hill side overlooking the city of Panjim. It was eventually replaced by a larger church in the 1600s by the Portuguese. This church has the second largest bell in Goa followed by Se Cathedral having the largest bell.
Miramar Beach is about 5 kms from Panjim bus stand. You can go by a bus for about 10 rs. An auto rikshaw takes about 100 rs from Panjim bus stand (or Panjim Church) to Miramar beach. It is about 3 kms from Dona Paula and an autorikshaw takes about same 100 rs from Miramar to Dona Paula. Unlike deserted beaches like Arambol or Querim or Benaulim or Varca beach, Miramar beach is connected by super wide roads. You can easily get auto rikshaws there in the stand (Note: You will not find an auto in 8 out of 10 beaches in Goa). Miramar beach is a sandy beach, always crowd with locals and tourists. Dona Paula is a popular tourist point located about 7 kms from Panaji the capital of Goa. This place is named after Dona Paula Amaral Antonio de Souto Maior, an woman in Portuguese India, who was known for her charity. Dona Paula is full of activities throughout the year. There are mainly two things to see, the jetty and the view point. You have to go through a narrow bridge which is full of small small shops. You can climb a few steps to reach Dona Paula view point where you can see beautiful views of the sorroundings. The geography of this place is interesting as the narrow land is extended inside the sea. Rest you can see in the video.
