In southern Japan lies an abandoned island called Hashima island, it played a huge role during the country's industrialization in the 20th century. The island was a coal producing powerhouse and it was once a striving community with a population over 5,000. It lasted 84 years until it was abandoned in 1974 after the country switch fuel from coal to petroleum. Today, this island now a tourist attraction and a popular travel destination for exploration.
