Tongli is an ancient water town located in Wujiang district, on the outskirts of Suzhou, Jiangsu province. It is known for its system of canals and has been given the nickname "Venice of the East". The town is renowned for gondola rides, beautiful water, gardens, and ancient stone bridges. It is one of the six famous ancient towns in Shanghai. The town has a history of more than 1,000 years and retains many of the features of an ancient Wu region town.
