Port of an obscure Japanese arcade game that never got a western release. Charge 'N Blast is another example of a Sega game they decided not to publish themselves on the Dreamcast. What's even more interesting is the game was developed by AM1 and even Yu Suzuki is credited in the high score table and a large number of AM2's staff appear to have worked on it but the company logo is missing from the game?
A modern take on the classic arcade shooter Cabal, while you might think that if Sega didn't publish it then it's going to be rubbish. You would however be wrong as it's fairly playable once you get used to the gameplay mechanics. As like the name of the game suggests, you have to charge your shots before you can fire them. You have three weapons to choose from although the torpedoes can only be used on the underwater stage limiting you really to two weapons on dry land. The aim is to kill everything on screen to move to the next screen, before the timer runs out. Power ups are also hidden in each stage and you can blow up just about anything on screen, so long as you hit it with a rocket or grenade. Charge 'N Blast is a bit unbalanced in places and the game is far easier and more fun in two player mode, as it's much easier to lay waste to the background. Time is incredibly tight in single player mode as a result and gives you little room for error.
A fun title in short bursts this is not a deep or long lasting game and can easily be finished in an hour or two, so don't go spending a small fortune on it.
